Create a Universe Pt.1
I will be writing a series of "Create a Universe" so that we can focus on the preliminary steps I found helpful for the universe I am developing.
I would also like to discuss the importance of creating your very own universe and the benefits it has to offer.
Here are some things I would like to discuss in a future blog post:
1. Why should you create your own Universe?
2. The formula to come up with your universe!
3. The importance of World-Building.
4. Developing a story.
5. Psychological tips for overcoming frustration.
6. Creating believable Characters for your story.
I am developing my very own universe, codename "Project Genesis," and I can tell you that it is one of the most satisfying and gruesome battles, psychologically, you'll encounter when putting in the love and passion to it.
The first part will be rather short but a very important one!
For one to create a universe, one has to be inspired.
What are your inspirations? What moves you? What makes you sad, mad, happy, excited, crazy? What would you like to say? Have you had these questions in mind? Try to go beyond the boundaries of your consciousness to find these answers.
Because once you have figured out what inspires you, the DNA of your universe is set on the table for you to dissect.
It sounds easy, and it is. You copy fragments of all the things that inspire you so that you can stitch them together to make your very own. Nothing is unique in this world anymore. So we must steal ideas from different sources to be unique as we can.
The image above is an example of how easy you can come up with ideas by mixing sources. That's it. That is the formula.
By jotting down the ideas that I liked from each source, I came up with a fast universe and a premise of a story that has potential in the example above. If I had put more sources and had given myself more time, I could have strengthened the idea.
Try to come up with a message or a theme for your universe as well. The universe I am creating is about "how to be human" as well as "who are we, where do we come from, and what do we do?" By setting up a theme, you would zero in on the potential story you would like to tell.
Give it a shot! The ideas you can come up with by having bizarre sources to steal from are limitless. Be creative, and most importantly, take your time in this process because this will be the spine of your universe. Its ok to come back to this to make adjustments or add more sources of inspiration. But always remember the Universe you want to create and stick with it!
If you'd like to share your bizarre outcomes, please make sure to share it with us in the comments below! We'd love to read them :)
